The Cancer of Betrayal

The Cancer of Betrayal

In 1972, Guinea-Bissau revolutionary leader Amilcar Cabral delivered his last public speech in Conakry, at the funeral of the former Ghanaian president Nkrumah, Amilcar Cabral had denounced the cancer of betrayal that eats up African movements. Cabral himself would be assassinated in Guinea barely a year later, January 20, 1973.

As a response to the recent success of the Academy Award nominated biopic, Judas and the Black Messiah, this film series looks at the treatment and images of the struggle of African, Irish and Black Movements and the issues of betrayal they have all experienced.
